Vanilla Panna cotta is a very easy and simple Italian dessert, made with cream, milk and sugar.
Panna cotta literally means ‘cooked cream’ in Italian as it was originally made from very thick cream.
This is a very delicate dessert which you can make ahead of time and keep in a fridge before serving at small get-togethers or parties.

Ingredients:
1 cup measures 250ml
Double cream – 1 cup
Milk – 1 cup
Agar-agar powder – 1tbsp
Vanilla extract – 1tbsp
Water – 3tbsp
Sugar – ¼ cup
Preparation:
In a small bowl, add 3tbsp of water, add 1tbsp of agar-agar powder and mix well without any lumps. Keep aside.
Next, in a saucepan, add milk, double cream, vanilla extract and sugar. Mix well.
Boil the mixture on medium to low flame until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add the agar-agar mixture and stir well until it is completely dissolved.
Bring the entire mixture to boil on low flame for 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain it into a jug using a strainer.
Pour it into the prepared cups and keep in the refrigerator for 1-2hrs or until it is set.
When Panna cotta is set, unmould it into a plate and serve it by garnishing with mint and a strawberry and enjoy this delicious and creamy dessert.
Notes:
While adding the agar-agar to the water, stir it vigorously until it is completely dissolved before switching on the heat.
Don’t add the agar-agar powder directly in hot water otherwise, it will clump up.
If the panna cotta is sticking to your cup during unmould, place the cup in luke-warm water for a few seconds and tap it gently on the back of the cup with hand.

Panna cotta is the American delicate equivalent of flan. Imagine a solid whipped cream. It pairs well with anything so a different topping can practically produce a new desert. It is light and not overly sweet. Try it out

mine came out like cement unfortunately. is 1 tablespoon the right amount of agar agar?

Pavani
Hi Veronika, sorry to hear that it did not come out well. I have used 1 tablespoon of agar-agar powder only and I make this with the same measurement every time and it comes out well.
