Why You'll Love Homemade Salad Dressing

  • Cheaper than store bought
  • You know all the ingredients
  • Fresh
  • Full of flavor

Homemade Pomegranate Dressing Is Perfect For

  • BBQs
  • Potlucks
  • Bagged lunches
  • Lawn parties
  • Baby Showers
  • Anytime you have a boring salad

Salad dressings have always been a sour note of mine. It's one of the reasons I find it hard to stick with salads long time, as I am not a fan of eating the same thing over and over again.

I love variety, and I love colors!

So when I noticed that this dressing was not only exotic, but pink, I jumped for joy!

Pomegranate dressing is the perfect substitute for lemon and cheese-based dressings.

The vinegar retains the sweet-and-sour contrast of the pomegranate but doesn't overpower the rest of the ingredients within your salad bowl.

I highly recommend you give these a try if you're wanting to venture out from your regular routine, but without attracting calories.

Pomegranate Info

Pomegranates have a flavor that is hard to mistake.

On one side, it appears to taste sweet and take on a subtle (and I mean subtle) note of cranberry. On the opposite end, it bears such a tangy bite that it indefinitely sticks to your memory because of the stark contrast.

And that's why it's beloved in salads and light fare (beyond its anti-inflammatory benefits).

Traditionally speaking, pomegranates can be stored in the refrigerator for months on end. In an airtight container such as a mason jar, this means it can last for 4 months or more depending on how often it is used.

Pomegranate Dressing Is Easy To Pair With

  • Salads
  • Chicken
  • Duck
  • Fish

Think Oven Roasted Salmon with Pomegranate Dressing or Tossed Salad with Fried Chicken Strips and Pomegranate Dressing as lunch or dinner options.

How Do You Open A Pomegranate?

Because of its high juice content and abundance of seeds, start at the top and slowly work your way down towards the middle, stopping ¾ths down from the bottom to prevent juice spillage (and a huge mess).

What Does Pomegranate Go Well With?

Think of similar things like:

  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Apples
  • Arugula
  • Citrus
  • Coconut
  • Kale
  • Mango
  • Peach
  • Pineapple

Pair this salad and dressing with a tasty Pineapple Screwdriver co*cktail for a great brunch or light dinner recipe.

How Long Is This Homemade Dressing Good For?

This homemade Pomegranate Salad Dressing, if stored properly in the refrigerator in an air-tight container (like your mason jar), can be kept for 3-4 weeks.

Each time you go to use it, give it a shake before opening and using to get all the flavors all mixed up again.

Pomegranate Dressing Tips & Variations

  • Using different oils in your recipe will give your dressing a slightly different flavor. Feel free to experiment and try different oils each time you make it to find your favorite version.
  • Make sure to shake the dressing in a jar each time you go to use it as it will separate in the fridge.
  • When getting the pomegranate arils out, sometimes it's helpful to get a container of water and scrape the pomegranate arils out under water. They tend to come out easier this way.
