Also if a path is less than 3 meters from the edge of the water the water will be blocked. Water controls a two meter terrain buffer when placed near to facilities and shops and the paths control terrain one meter from their edge. Water can only be placed at one meter intervals relative to game sea level.

Best way I've found is to build a door frame and place your barrier gate inside the opening, lining it up as close as possible with the frame, and then place your barrier walls off of that using angle snap. Walls start perfectly aligned to the outside grid.

Zoopedia says level 2 barrier is enough for elephants so not sure why they were breaking through your level 2 barrier. Are you sure they were breaking through it and it didn't just fell apart because of low maintenance and bad condition? One solution is to place rocks or construction walls along your fences.

To make curves do what you want position a fence post where you want the curve to end then, before clicking to place it, hold 'Z' and move your mouse left or right to change the direction/depth of the curve, when you have it set correctly click to place it.

If you are using workzones, be sure the habitat has an available caretaker in the zone. Also it might be that you need to reset the habitat by slightly moving a barrier post, wait a moment for it to calculate the reset and then hit ctrl+z to put the post back.
