You know those trendy olive oil stores that seem to be popping up everywhere? I love them. I’ve only been to two: Olivia’s in Kelowna and 4 Oak Oil and Vinegar in Prince George – both are good and I have bought Coconut Balsamic from both stores.

I love coconut everything.

When I was going over my eating plan and looking at the 21 Day Fix Extreme recipes I knew I wanted to try something different. I came across the White Balsamic Vinaigrette recipe that’s provided and thought it would be delicious to turn it into a Coconut Vinaigrette

I admit that the above salad looks a little plain, but I was in a hurry to throw something together so I could test out the coconut vinaigrette. I always have spinach and cauliflower in the fridge, and turns out today they were the only vegetables I had in my fridge.

That’s it.

You can store this in your fridge for a week. I recommend taking it out of the fridge 30 minutes because you use it as a marinade or dressing for your salad. Or if you forget (like I always do) just put your serving in a container and zap it in the microwave for a few seconds.

FAQs

What is the formula for vinaigrette dressing? ›

2 Ingredients: The basics

Traditional vinaigrette recipes call for a ratio of three parts oil to one part vinegar. However, some people—like me—prefer their dressings to pack more punch and choose a 2:1 oil-to-vinegar ratio.

Why did my vinaigrette congeal? ›

*Did your vinaigrette solidify in the fridge? If you use a high quality olive oil (has a higher ratio of monounsaturated fats), it will solidify in the fridge. This is completely normal. Let it sit out at room temperature for 30 minutes before using or place in a warm water bath to speed up the process.

All good vinaigrettes are made from a combination of fat and acid. The most common ratios are 1:2 or 1:3 parts vinegar:oil.

What is the best technique for emulsifying a vinaigrette? ›

You do this by adding the oil to the vinegar or other liquid in a slow and steady stream while furiously beating with a whisk or blender. Another trick to getting your dressing to emulsify is to add a third ingredient that acts as a helper.

What are two ingredients that can be used to help emulsify a vinaigrette? ›

The most common emulsifiers in your kitchen are likely egg yolks, mayonnaise, prepared mustard (preferably Dijon), honey, and tomato paste (though I'm not a fan of raw tomato paste, the flavor works quite well in a vinaigrette). For a more neutral flavor, use mayonnaise.

What is the emulsifier in vinaigrette? ›

Emulsifiers mix easily with both oil and water and act as the glue that keeps your vinaigrette from separating. Common ingredients used as emulsifiers in vinaigrettes include Dijon mustard, honey, egg yolks, tomato paste or even roasted garlic (some are better emulsifiers than others).

Why must vinaigrette be stirred immediately before serving? ›

I usually like to prepare my vinaigrette at 1 hour before serving it, and let it sit on the counter at room temperature. I then quickly stir it again right before serving, to re-emulsify it (the oil tends to separate as you let it sit).

How do you bind a vinaigrette? ›

In this easy method, garlic and mustard are used as emulsifiers to help bind the surfaces of the water and oil in the dressing. Adding other ingredients like nuts, honey, mayonnaise, and tahini will also help emulsify the dressing.

How do you stabilize a vinaigrette? ›

In many vinaigrettes, mustard is the go-to stabilizer. Since most households have a jar of mustard handy, this is a pretty easy pantry add-in. You should follow a basic ratio of one part acid to three parts oil, plus the emulsifier.

What is vinaigrette dressing made of? ›

In general, vinaigrette consists of 3 parts of oil to 1 part of vinegar whisked into an emulsion. Salt and pepper are often added. Herbs and shallots, too, are often added, especially when it is used for cooked vegetables or grains. Sometimes mustard is used as an emulsifier and to add flavour.

What is the basic salad dressing formula? ›

The French have decided that the perfect ratio for a vinaigrette is 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. For my personal taste, that's a little too oily — but it's totally up to you. My simple system is: In a small screw-top jar, place vinegar and a pinch of salt; cover and shake (this helps to dissolve the salt).

A vinaigrette is made of two basic ingredients - olive oil and balsamic.

Which of the following ingredients is used in making basic vinaigrette? ›

Basic Vinaigrette Ratio & Ingredients
  • Olive oil for your base.
  • Vinegar of choice.
  • Dijon mustard for some flavor complexity and creaminess.
  • Maple syrup or honey for a little sweetness that balances the vinegar.
  • Garlic for oomph.
  • Salt and pepper.
